Because this is the day where Miguel Cotto will try to settle the score with the returning boxer, Antonio Margarito of Mexico. If you can remember, Cotto and Margarito first met on the ring with a highly explosive end where Cotto was bashed and defeated bloody by Margarito on the later rounds of their 2008 match.

However, this win of Margarito was put into question when he was found out later cheating when he fights against Shane Mosley with the use of illegal strap on his hands. This affected his boxing reputation and even lost his chance to fight again when he got suspended. Later, he was allowed to fight when the suspension was lifted. He even fight Manny Pacquiao as his comeback fight.

On the side of Cotto, this is a chance for him to take on Margarito and will try to take a revenge against the Mexican fighter and redeem himself from his disappointing lost. He might also prove his point that he last lost because of the same tactics Margarito used on his fight against Shane.

I believe that it will be an interesting fight because it will be a showdown of slug fest. Manny Pacquiao successfully defended his welterweight title against the former world champion Shane Mosley in a majority decision scorring 120-108 on one scorecard, 120-107 on a second and 119-108 on the third. Meanwhile for the undercard results,Kelly Pavlik (37-2)overwhelmed Alfonso Lopez (21-1) by majority decision and marks his return of the former middleweight champion. Sugar Shane Mosley has strong hunches that he will definitely get a load of punches to shower Manny Pacquiao during their big fight on May 7. What’s worse is that, he declared that he will totally knock out the People’s Champ in the FIRST round live on MGM Grand. I think the two fighters are brimming up energy and stamina in order to defeat each other, and the bonus of a knockout is definitely one big motivation for Mosley and Pacquiao. In Mosley’s high-end boot and training camp in Big Bear California, with confidence, he splurged on the media’s attention, saying he’s surely going to knock the Filipino Champion once and for all. And even if he’s not specifying what round he’s going to lull Pacquiao into KO, catching him squarely on the chin in the first round will be a good, energizing start.

Long before May 7, I thought the two would be having a healthy competition, no heavy grudges or issues, or racist gestures volleying between them. But a month to go before the big face-off, these two legends certainly start to build up on strength and spirit to knock each other out. Especially Mosley, whom I thought was a good-natured fighter with a thundering velvet hand. What happened to not holding grudges and schemes and avoiding haughty banter? Furthermore, Mosley also takes particular pride in the fact that Pacquiao has never faced a fighter like him: someone with a heavy hand and swift, intimidating moves. Pacquiao on the other hand remains to be quite a feisty fighter who fancies slugs at close range, making Mosley feel very much at home. So much for the Filipino hospitality, Pacquiao still has that spirit even if he’s up for a fight.

On one interview, Sugar Shane Mosley said with an air of confidence that a victory for him means to actually knock out the People’s Champ, not just getting a head start at earning points. Freddie Roach analyzed that Shane Mosley will be finished and will be Koed by Manny Pacquiao on the 6th rounds while Shane Mosley said that he will surely bruised the favorite champion boxer on the early rounds and will make him to retire on the 7th. Each camp of this two colliding forces are saying that they will win but who do you think will really win on this match.

Based on the survey/poll that I have presented here on WatchPacquiao.com site (which can be found on the sidebar of this site), 70.19% of the follower of this fight believe that Manny Pacquiao will win via knock out while 8.21% of them predict that its Mosley that will dominate of this match. Meanwhile, 18.57% of them believe that the WBC Welterweight championship event will last up to 12 rounds but it will be the Filipino’s advantage and will win via split or unanimous decision. Only 1.73% believes that the American boxer can take points to get a victory.

Finally only 1.3% of this boxing enthusiasts believe that there’s a possibility of technical draw in the end.

Based on what I have experienced on previous matches of Manny Pacquiao, all the poll results were correct. I guess it will be the same too as same as what had happened previously.

What If Pacquiao Lost Versus Mosley, Will Still Be Pacquiao vs. Mayweather Later?

In a news today, I've heard that despite that there's no result yet on the Pacquiao vs. Mosley match scheduled on May 7, Top Rank, Pacquiao's camp and Mayweather's camp are discussing already the possible Pacquiao vs. Mayweather in November 2011. It seems that they are not worrying with the possibilities that Shane Mosley might overwhelm Manny with their fight and upset the Filipino boxer on their fight. It also seems that they are already assuming that Pacquiao will be the victor on their match which I see as unfair for the American boxer. Of course, I am excited with the Pacquiao-Mayweather dream match but I think Mosley deserves to prove himself and appreciate his effort to make himself much known to the boxing world. I think at his age, he wants something big before he retires which makes him very dangerous.

The question now is what if Shane Mosley knock out him and win this match, will still be a Pacquiao vs. Mayweather? Even him commented that he will surely disappoint Pacman's fan for he is also aiming for a Mayweather vs. Mosley rematch. Despite his age, he can still deliver heavy blows and fast move but of course based on his previous fights, he is kinda slow on the later round which might cause him to loose - which was also predicted by known boxing analysts.

Before the big boxing event Pacquiao vs. Mosley on May 7 which will be a battle for the welterweight title, Miguel Cotto of Puerto Rico will be fighting again on the super welterweight title division. After his successful win against Yuri Foreman, his success will be challenged by another super welterweight boxer named Ricardo Mayorga of Managua, Nicaragua. It will be a clash of big guys that will surely rock the boxing world on March 12, 2011 at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, Nevada U.S.A.

The Cotto vs. Mayorga fight will test who will be the best on the said division where previously reigned by Manny Pacquiao. It is promoted by Top Rank and can be watched live on TV via Showtime's PPV and not HBO PPV. This might be the answer of Bob Arum to the HBO boxing on the same date. But this fight is much bigger compared to the fight that will featured by HBO on the same date.

Now if you want to watch the fight, then you might want to know that the fight will begin at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT and got a suggested retail price of $49.95.

Update: The result of the match, well, Miguel Cotto impressively and professionally defeated Mayorga. The latter gave up after taking some strong offenses from the Puerto Rican boxer. A very strong finish for Cotto.

Showtime and Bob Arum closed the deal last week and it was decided. CBS and Showtime will take the highly anticipated boxing event of the year - Pacquiao vs. Mosley match which is scheduled to happen in Las Vegas, Nevada on May 7, 2011. That's right, Showtime will the channel that will be handling the promotion and telecast of the fight. This brings new life to the highly criticized welterweight event.

It was previously reported that a lot of people don't like to see Mosley to fight Pacquiao and this causes a lot of mixed opinions from different critics and boxing analysts around the globe. Most of them see Mosley as a veteran, old fighter that will surely can't keep up with Pacman.

However, this latest development will surely bring more highlights and exposure to Pacquiao vs. Mosley which will surely bring more viewers from around the globe - boxing followers or not. If compared to previous network, CBS/Showtime combo got more audiences and this will surely bring more viewers and higher PPV returns for both the boxers, TV network and the boxing promotions.

The next match and said to be the "fight of the year" is the Pacquiao vs. Mosley match which is scheduled to happen on the 7th of May 2011 in the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.

The 39 years old former world welterweight champion "Sugar" Shane Mosley challenged the fighter of the year, and considered pound for pound king of today's boxing era, Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao in a welterweight fight that will surely prove a lot of things. Mosley trying to prove that he is not yet that old and will not retire yet until he proves that he's the best of his league while Pacquiao still trying to surpass and defend his current ranking in the boxing world.

Margarito Mocking Pacquiao's Trainer Video

Its almost a day before the WBC fight Manny Pacquiao vs. Antonio Margarito and it is sad that the issue on Margarito insulting (or maybe just making fun of) Freddie Roach by acting like how the latter move. As this hit the cyberspace, a lot of reacted against the tornado's actions. I found this video from Youtube showing Margarito with his coach having fun on the video.

Now in connection with this incident, during the press conference the other day, Antonio Margarito personally apologizes to Freddie Roach to his actions. The following video shows his statement during the press conference (guys its in Spanish, and I can't still find any sub for it yet. :) )

Hmmm... what's my reaction about this issue? I believe that this is just part of the promotional stunt to make "more fire" for the boxing event to make the fans to be more excited about the match and does it work? Hell, yeah! A lot of them wants him down!

Margarito with Fans in Texas

A couple of days before the big night for Manny Pacquiao and Antonio Margarito and both of them are in Arlington, Texas to prepare for the November 13 championship match.

Margarito arrived first in Texas and looked very relaxed and happy as he is accompanied by his wife, child and his team. The Tijuana's tornado was met by very excited fans who dance and cheer him during the meet-up. He spend the time with autographs and even showed off his muscle - the fruit of very hard training over the last 3 months to witnessing fans.

Meanwhile, Manny Pacquiao chartered bigger 'Air Pacquiao' to go to Texas. It is a 188-seater plane which is slightly bigger than the last one in March for the Clottey fight and covered by Pacquiao images all over.

Pacquiao and Margarito will be staying on the Gaylord Hotel for the entire week till the fight night.

This is the statement of Antonio Margarito and his camp regarding the upcoming Pacquiao vs. Margarito fight on November 13. They said that they have already devised that will surely exploit the weaknesses of Pacquiao on the ring that will lead to his defeat. Margarito admitted that on the early rounds, he will surely have a hard time since Pacquiao is fast and will surely throw a lot of punches. But he said when he found the rhythm on the later rounds, which he usually do (specially with his fight with Williams), he will definitely be comfortably deliver a biggest upset on the life of Pacman.

What I see with Pacquiao right now is that he is quite distracted when he trained in the Philippines. There's a lot of TV appearances and guestings that he have done making him to be distracted. I hope that his time in LA gym would be enough to cope with the lost time he spend in the Philippines.

Actually, for Pacquiao, I don't need to see more of him because ever since the rise of his popularity, the articles, news and documentary about this pound for pound fighter is widespread over TV and newspaper. This is the reason that I don't want to know more about him because I almost know about this fighter.

What I want to see is the life of Antonio Margarito and his whole being. Manny "Pac-man" Pacquiao is now in Los Angeles, California for the final phase of his training as preparation for the upcoming Pacquiao vs. Margarito fight on the 13th of Nov. His training team will be focusing on his weight and speed for the fight. They traveled via Philippine Airlines Flight 102 and landed in Los Angeles International Airport where his fans wait and welcome the people's champ. The sessions will be happening in the Wild Card Boxing Club of Roach in Hollywood, California.

"Now it's time to get focused", said by the 4-time Trainer of the Year Awardee, Freddie Roach who expects for Pacquiao to retire after his fight with Margarito. Roach is confident that the fight will end on or before eight rounds. "Today he weighed 146. This fight will not go past eight rounds. It’ll be a clean KO. I have three new sparring partners coming in Monday," he added.

Armenian Vanes Martirosyan was added to the list of sparring partners of Manny Pacquiao for their training starting this Tuesday.

A lot of predictions have been released regarding the outcome of the upcoming Manny Pacquiao and Antonio Margarito WBC super welterweight championship match and each camp has its own forecast of what might happen. From Pacquiao's camp, Freddie Roach predicted that his boxer will definitely knockout Margarito on the 8th round, not by his left punch but Pac-man's weakest right hand which he boasted have been trained to hit harder compared to previous matches he have gone.

On the other hand, Margarito's coach Robert Garcia stated that the match will end for him to kiss the canvass while holding the ropes for the Tijuana's tornado will surely pressure him to go and stuck on the ropes.

Statistically, the Mexican boxer is much taller than the Filipino fighter with a longer reach. However, Pacquiao is in his prime of career and will surely the crowd's favorite for this Pacquiao vs. Margarito match.

Pacquiao Takes Rest on Training for 10-10-10 Pasig River Run Event

Manny Pacquiao takes a rest on his training in Baguio City to participate and support the environmental run dubbed as "10.10.10 A Run for the Pasig River" where he participated the 10K run. The event was organized by Kapit Bisig Para sa Ilog Pasig and the run is considered to be the largest footrace ever happened in the Philippines with over 100,000 actual runners who participated the event. The crowds gathered at 3 starting points in SM Mall of Asia (MOA), CCP Complex, and Ayala Avenue in Makati.

Aside from Manny Pacquiao, other Filipino celebrities participated the event such as Luis Manzano, Piolo Pascual, Karylle, Melai Cantiveros, Jason Francisco, Jovit Baldivino, and Bugoy Drilon.

Pacquiao described the Pasig River as a gift from God that we should protect.

This participation of the people's champ shows his concern to the environment and I guess this 10K run will surely add or boost his stamina for the upcoming Pacquiao vs. Margarito on November. Kudos to you idol!

Pacquiao Starts His Training in Baguio

This week is the beginning of the high intensity training of the people's champ and now congressman Manny Pacman Pacquiao in the city of pines in the Philippines named Baguio City as preparation for the upcoming Pacquiao vs. Margarito fight in Dallas, Texas on November 13, 2010. He have practiced on the said place ever since his fight against Miguel Cotto.

His team and him started his training at the Elorde Gym then transfer to the gym in Baguio. Roach and his conditioning expert revealed that they will include swimming as part of the training and they will get Michael Medina to be as the sparring partner of Pacquiao which is dubbed as "Margarito clone" because of his reach and height which is quite the same with the Tijuana tornado.

Well preparations are made intensely so we will really expect a one of a hell of fight from the pound for pound king. I will definitely watch Pacquiao vs Margarito online or even offline.

No Pacquiao-Cotto Rematch, Its Pacquiao vs. Margarito!

Its confirmed today that the possibility of making the Pacquiao vs. Mayweather to come true has ended. This opens to possibilities to Pacquiao-Cotto rematch as I have mentioned on my previous post. However, this speculation also come to a conclusion of not happening at all when Bob Arum announced that he have chosen the Mexican boxer, Antonio Margarito to meet with Manny Pacquiao on November 13, 2010 for the Pacquiao vs. Margarito super welterweight championship event.

That's right! Margarito will be fighting against the Filipino champ to get the vacant world title for super welterweight championship of the world. If he can gain back his license in boxing, Las Vegas will be the venue for the fight but if not it will be at Mexico. Antonio Margarito beats Miguel Cotto before he was suspended in boxing because of cheating during his fight against Shane Mosley.

Now will Pacquiao vs. Margarito be interesting? Not as Mayweather vs. Pacquiao!

There's a BIG possibility that Pacquiao vs. Cotto part 2 will happen this year for Miguel Cotto and Manny Pacquiao. This is what Pacquiao's promoter have announced lately when they've given a final week for Floyd Mayweather Jr. to decide if Mayweather vs Pacquiao match will be inked by the undefeated American boxer. However, it seems that Mayweather sticks to what he have said in an interview that he take a year rest before he fights again. This is the reason that Bob Arum is eying for either Antonio Margarito or a rematch for Miguel Cotto on November 2010.

If you can remember, Miguel Cotto was beaten by Manny Pacquiao in a 12 round TKO last year of November and a rematch can be a good fight to watch as Cotto might be ready for the pound for pound king after he have beaten the undefeated Yuri Foreman and grab the WBA Light Middleweight title from the champion. Making him to recover from his previous loses against Pacquiao and Margarito.

Well, let's just see what will happen this week. If Mayweather refuse to fight again and makes any reasons or whatsoever, it doesn't matter. There's still Cotto and Margarito in line but of course it will be more exciting if Floyd will be fighting.

After Miguel Cotto's lost against Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao on the 12th round of their match last year, I thought it will be the end of his boxing career and retirement is the only thing that waits for the Puerto Rican boxer. I was wrong! It isn't not the end of the road for the great Puerto Rican boxer but a new beginning for a new fight ahead. He is moving higher than welterweight and going to junior middleweight to fight the undefeated and current champion of the said division, Yuri Foreman. It is said that Top Rank Promotions are just finishing up all the details and will schedule the fight to happen on June 6, 2010 at the Yankee Stadium. A lot of analysts said that it will be too ambitious for them but many fans believe that it will be one of the great fight to watch out.

Yuri Foreman vs. Miguel Cotto should be considered as a fight that boxing enthusiasts should look closely and see if Cotto can still deliver something interesting to us.

Why I find Cotto vs. Pacquiao to be a very interesting fight? It is because, it shows the clash of power and speed in one boxing event. Actually I don't think of the undercards anymore. I just want the main event to happen. Miguel Cotto is known to have a power puncher because in every punches that he made he always bring along his body (which I think a disadvantage for him not an advantage, that my opinion) while Manny Pacquiao, despite to be known to have strong punches during his previous fights, he is more popular with his speed.

The boxing show of November 14 in Las Vegas will surely build some great woah, hooray and yehey as the two gloves of the two fighters collides and one body will kiss the canvass. The question who will be that be is to be answered on the fight night. So don't miss it, you can try to watch it here.

Sports as the number one boxer of the world while his upcoming opponent Miguel Cotto is on the number 6 position. Pacquiao gained 238 votes and followed by Mayweather who got 233 votes. This morning, Manny Pacquiao did his usual morning workout/conditioning, fast pace jug in Luneta in Manila. He did his usual training in park in Manila to continue his program of condition for his upcoming fight against Miguel Cotto. This is after they've moved from Baguio to Manila due to the typhoon that hits the cool place. The said morning routine will be his last in the place prior to flying to US to continue his training there.

Pacquiao as per according to his trainers and conditioning expert said that the people's champ is in a perfect shape to face Cotto. Despite the disruptions and other things that happen during his training in the Philippines (like the typhoon and land slide in Baguio), Freddie Roach believes that Pacquiao is not affected by this and he will be 100% ready when the fight comes this November. The Pacman said that his fight is dedicated to all the victims of calamities in the Philippines.

Miguel Cotto is the first opponent of Pacquiao with 145 lbs weight, young and on his prime of his life. That's the reason why his camp believes that Cotto is going to be successful in grabbing the title of pound for pound king from Pacquiao. "Cotto is the first true welterweight that (Pacquiao) will have fought in his career. He is young and still in his prime so that is what Pacquiao is facing." - Santiago said from Cotto's training camp at the Fight Factory Gym in Tampa, Florida.

Pacquiao Back In Manila Due to Typhoon

Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao and his team decided to go back to Manila to continue his training there and prepare to fly to LA instead of staying in the summer capital of the Philippines, Baguio City, because of the threat of the upcoming super typhoon Lupit (Ramil in the Philippines) that might hit the said place. The possible location in Manila where he will continue his practice are the Wild Card Gym of Rod Nazario in Sucat, Parañaque or in the Gerry Peñalosa Gym in a mall in Mandaluyong City.

The training in Manila will be his last week of his program for the preparation on his upcoming fight against Miguel Cotto of Puerto Rico. He will be flying to Los Angeles in October 24 to continue his training at Freddie Roach's Wild Card Gym before proceeding to Las Vegas for the final week of training prior to the fight date on MGM Grand.

Of course, this travel will definitely affect him that's why his conditioning expert Alex Ariza advice him to rest and eat well after the said long travel from Baguio.

IMHO: Pacquiao vs. Cotto Fight Prediction

If I will be asked what will be the result of the super fight between Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao and Miguel Cotto this coming November 14, I would say that both fighters have their chances to win. If Cotto will be foolish like Hatton did on their previous match, then he will just be beaten and KO by Pacquiao on the 2nd or 3rd round of their fight. It will be a great disappointment for his part if that happens. That's the reason that he should study Pacman's move first prior to engaging to offensive stance and moves.

On the other hand, if Cotto reaches to the last round like what he did against Clottey without allowing Pacquiao to take advantage on points, then he will possibly win by split decision or they will reach a draw which will make him stay as the champion of his division making Pacquiao think again for a rematch. If that happens, woah, another big time event if in case Pacquiao will not retire.

Pepeng Can't Stop Pacquiao's Training

Despite the Typhoon Pepeng (international codename: Parma) that hits the Philippines that right came after Typhoon Ondoy (codename: Ketsana) hits the part of the country where the People Champ, Manny Pacquiao is training, this doesn't stop him from fiercely showing his powers during a closed door sparring in Baguio City. Porter, his sparring partner was seems to be battered during their heated sparring this weekend. I thought he rested for a while because of the typhoon but I was wrong. Report of GMA News said and stated the following statement of Freddie Roach regarding the training:

"He was more focused today," said Roach, who just the other day denounced his famous ward for having too many activities outside of training camp.

"There’s no more distraction and I like what he showed in our training today. He'll get better as time goes on." - Freddie Roach, source: GMANews.tv

This shows that Pacquiao doesn't really lost his passion and seriousness in fighting. Cotto be ready for the "rain of punches" on your fight on November 14. :)

Rowland vs. Chavez Jr. Added on Undercard

The undefeated Julius Cesar Chavez, Jr. (40-0-1 30 KOs) versus Troy Rowland (25-2 7 KOs) match was announced that will be added as the undercard match for the upcoming Cotto-Pacquiao in Las Vegas, Nevada in MGM Grand in November 14. According to BoxingNews24:

It could be that Arum is putting Chavez on the card to try and lure Mexican fans into purchasing the November 14th card in the same way that they, in mass numbers, purchased the Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Juan Manuel Marquez fight card on September 19th. That’s a wise move by Arum, although Chavez Jr. isn’t anywhere near the same class of fighter as Marquez. However, the Mexican public might be lured into wanting to see Chavez because of his famous father.

The Ring magazine released an updated rating of the best boxers of the world and still Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao of the Philippines leads the list of pound for pound fighters of the world. Having a record of 49-3-2 37 KOs respectively and his consecutive wins against different fighters on different weight class namely against Barrera, Marquez, Hatton and Dela Hoya, made him the best of the best pound for pound fighters. On the other hand, Miguel Cotto is on the top 10 having a record of 34-1-0 27 KOs. The question now is if in case he, Cotto, beats Pacman on November 14, will he be the number one of the world?

We will see this Pacquiao vs. Cotto clash of top pound for pound fighters later this November and will be a great fight for us to watch!

Pacquiao Starts his 8 Weeks Training

Today, Pacquiao fly to Baguio with his private plane to start his 8 weeks training as per preparation to the Pacquiao vs. Cotto event this coming November 14. Pacquiao believes and still use this same method as he usually use even his past fights. His camp believes that this 8 weeks training is enough for him to prove to Cotto and the world that he will be back in shape and will surely grab the belt from the Puerto Rican boxer.

Pacquiao also commented on the recently concluded match of Mayweather and Marquez. He praised how the undefeated Mayweather fight against Marquez. But he doesn't comment yet regarding his interest on fighting him later.

Regarding the training, he will transfer to US in mid October to continue the 8 weeks program.

Pacquiao taking steroids? What? This is the shocking news I have read recently that Floyd Mayweather Sr. is trying to say that the pound for pound king is taking steroids. This is the news that welcomed Pacquiao when he come back in the Philippines from the promotional tour for his fight against Miguel Cotto of Puerto Rico. He was really annoyed by this news and even said that they are studying the legal action that will be applied on this irresponsible and unconfirmed statement of Mayweather Sr., the trainer of Ricky Hatton.

A lot of reactions from the camp of Pacquiao was released including the reaction of his coach/trainer, Freddie Roach. Roach said in an interview "You know, these guys come up with reason why they lost. They lost because Floyd Sr sucks as trainer and I had the better fighter."

Now what can say about this accusation, is there really a possibility that the people's choice and loved boxer of all time is really taking steroids to enhance his physique? For me, I honestly don't believe on this. I believe that Pacquiao did work hard to reach what he got today and I think it is unfair for him to be treated this way. What about you what you think?

A lot of trainers are worrying about Pacquiao's training. Until now, he is not starting his training program for the Pacquiao vs. Cotto match this November. As I have mentioned on my previous post, it seems that he is not serious with this fight. Right now, his camp admitted that Pacquiao is still filming a movie and this is the reason why he is still not commencing his boxing training.

On the other hand, Freddie Roach said that they have all the preparations done and will have a training program just intended for the fight so fans should not worry. They even asked for McMillan to be his sparmate for the said training. The question now is that, is the remaining amount of time enough for him to fully prepared with the fight? Let us see then what will be the drawback of this doings of the Pacman.

Pacquiao asked for a sparring mate from UK to prepare for his fight on Nov. 14 in answer with his opponent's preparation. I ask this question because I can see how Pacquiao usually prepare for a big fight. He usually talks about it, make early preparations about it and really focus on the fight. Now, it seems that there's a lot of distractions and they are:

His political "dream." It is a great buzz today that he is planning to get a congressional sit in Saranggani Philippines.
His newest TV Show which is entitled "Show me the Manny" which can be watched on GMA TV
The war in Mindanao which the government asked for him to be a Peacemaker.

Well, just in case he is affected and distracted by these events in his life, it will be a good signal for Cotto. But is this possible in Pacquiao's world? Maybe, maybe not!

On the way (driving) to the office this morning, this boxing writer (ringside physician) had a chat with highly respected WBO President, Francisco "Paco" Valcarcel, regarding the upcoming Pacquiao – Cotto fight in November 14, 2009 at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. For my contribution to the Philippine boxing community, I tried to convince Team (Manny) Pacquiao to make this fight a title fight for the WBO World Championship Welterweight Crown of Puerto Rican Miguel Cotto. If it will be of interest to the readers of philboxing.com, here is my conversation today with current WBO President Francisco "Paco" Valcarcel:

WBO President Valcarcel – Good. Let him know that I could call him tomorrow too or tonight. How many hours ahead is the Philippines?

Dr. Recto – Since you are in Puerto Rico, the time should be like in New York…they are ahead by 12 hours but it is the opposite, it’s night time over there.

WBO President Valcarcel – We have the same time in New York, it’s Eastern Standard Time.

Dr. Recto – How much is the sanction fee for the Team Pacquiao?

WBO President Valcarcel – The total amount is going to be $ 150,000 for Manny. Bob Arum told me before that he was willing to pay the whole amount … for everybody.

Dr. Recto – So, what does Manny Pacquiao have to do to make this fight with Miguel Cotto a WBO welterweight championship title fight?

WBO President Valcarcel – Manny has to write the WBO a letter of request. Then he talks to Bob Arum and Bob will inform me. Arum is willing to do it, you know. Now after that, we can push Miguel Cotto to do it. I talked to Arum before in New York and he wants to do it. I will talk to Arum again and we will tell Cotto to do it.

Dr. Recto – What about the statement of Bob Arum recently – “No one cares in the U.S. about the belt!” – did you read it?

Cotto's Left Handed Spar Mate Key to Victory

I've read a news today that Cotto is looking for a left-handed sparring mate to become a Pacquiao-man for his training prior to the upcoming Pacquiao vs. Cotto fight on November. Cotto's camp believes that the key to conquering the might of the "Pacman" is to become adapted or adjusted to the strong left punches of the pound for pound king.

Tapping and finding sparring partners who are mirror-images of Manny Pacquiao will be the key to victory for Miguel Cotto when he faces the Filipino icon on November 14 in Las Vegas.
Cotto chief trainer Joe Santiago told the newspaper El Nuevo Dia that they are on the lookout for southpaw sparring partners who they plan to bring to Tampa, Florida, for the crucial phase of training camp.

“We will try to get left-handed and short boxers with good hand speed (like Pacquiao). This is the key to victory,”

Santiago said as he was presiding over Cotto’s first training session on Monday in Puerto Rico.

Cotto said he felt great after his light training, something that was not the case in the past.
“I feel very well, thanks to God. Better than when I began in previous occasions,” said the 28-year-old Cotto, who will report to the gym three times a week in the next two weeks in time for the arrival of conditioning coach Phil Landman.

Cotto to Defend Welterweight Title, WBO Said

Miguel Cotto previously disagreed about making his welterweight title to be on the line on the Pacquiao vs. Cotto match this coming November on 145 lbs. weight limit. Instead he demanded that if the belt is on the line, they should fight at 147 lbs. However, today the World Boxing Organization (WBO) announced that Cotto will be defending his title on the 145 lbs. This is a good news for the fighters for the only thing that hinders the match are gone, we are expecting a face to face action packed fight between this two boxing icons.

The World Boxing Organization (WBO) removed one of Manny Pacquiao’s concerns when it announced Sunday that Miguel Cotto will defend his welterweight crown in a catch weight of 145 lbs — and not 147 lbs — against the Filipino boxing icon.

WBO president Francisco “Paco” Valcarcel told the Puerto Rican newspaper El Nuevo Dia that (the fight) it’s going to be for the (WBO) title” and that everything will come to a “happy ending” for both parties.

Pacquiao lawyer Franklin Gacal said he had spoken with Hall of Fame promoter Bob Arum also yesterday, assuring him that the fight will be at 145 lbs and that Cotto’s WBO throne will be on the line in the super showdown penciled at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Cotto had insisted a few days back that if Pacquiao wants to go after the WBO crown, the fight will have to be at 147 lbs.

Pacquiao trainer Freddie Roach said fighting Cotto in a non-title bout is almost without value.

Now that it appears that a major stumbling block has been cleared, next up for discussion would be the crucial choice of finding a new training camp for Pacquiao, who has been advised by the Harvard-educated lawyer to set up the first half of his training camp outside US territory owing to an IRS regulation called the Substantial Presence Test.

There is a speculation that this Pacquiao vs. Cotto match on November 14, 2009 at MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, will be Pacman's last fight of his boxing career. Actually his mother, Dionisia Pacquiao told media about what his son told about this upcoming fight (read the said buzz here). One possible reason why this is the possibility of being the final match of his life is because of the upcoming election in 2010 in the Philippines. Boxer Pacquiao is planning to run for a representative in a certain district in Sarangani province.

This speculations and different unconfirmed stories might still change. It will all depend on the outcome of the match. Nobody knows what happens next and the only thing we can do is to wait which one of the fighter will be lying with their back on the floor of the ring or will jump for joy after the bell rings.

Pacquiao vs. Cotto Might Not Continue, If...

According to the Manny Pacquiao's camp, there's a possibility that Manny Pacquiao and Miguel Cotto future match will not pursue if the latter will not agree with the weight of 143. It is during their continous negotiation that Cotto is telling Pacquiao that he will be willing to fight the P4P king if they will fight it on his weight which is 145lbs. However, it seems that the Pacman's camp will not agree with this arrangement and instead stated to an interview that they might consider "Sugar" Shane Mosley since Mosley is much "aggreable" to the terms of the match and even said that he will be willing to fight Pacquiao regardless of the percentage of the profit share.

Well, I guess the fight might not or may continue but still its up to the fighters who will agree to each others terms.

The WBA (World Boxing Association) welterweight super champion Shane Mosley has given up the idea of fighting against the pound for pound king Manny Pacquiao. Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer is currently arranging his fight against Paul Williams, Joshua Clottey, Kermit Cintron, or Andre Berto, the World Boxing Council welterweight champion.

This is an excerpt of what he have said from the Yahoo news:

“Shane's legacy is intact, and it's not dependent on a Pacquiao yes or no,” said Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer as quoted by a Los Angeles Times sports blog. The LA Times article by Lance Pugmire noted that Schaefer revealed this latest development to The Times. Mosley, who even offered a 40-60 split to face Pacquiao, reportedly told Schaefer to stop negotiating for such bout. “Shane says he'll be the last man standing, anyway,” related Schaefer.

Maybe next time, Shane will have a chance to prove his might later. For the meantime, Pacquiao vs Cotto is tentatively schedule this coming November 14 and everybody should watch out for this clash of great fighters soon.
